RUCKR:
The future of rucking

We're building the link between technology and your feet hitting the pavement (without running).

The Science of Accurate Calorie Tracking

Traditional fitness trackers underestimate the true energy cost of rucking. Our proprietary RUCKCAL™ formula, backed by extensive research from leading institutions, considers crucial factors that others ignore:

  • Load weight distribution and biomechanical impact
  • Terrain type and surface complexity
  • Grade-adjusted metabolic cost

Research-Backed Precision

Load Carriage Model

Duggan & Haisman (1992)

Prediction of the metabolic cost of walking with and without loads. Ergonomics, 35(4), 417-426.

Validated against extensive military data, establishing foundational models for load carriage energy costs.

Grade Effects

Minetti et al. (2002)

Energy cost of walking and running at extreme uphill and downhill slopes. Journal of Applied Physiology, 93(3), 1039-1046.

Developed precise models for grade-based energy expenditure, validated from -45% to +45% slopes.

Speed-Load Interaction

Pandolf et al. (1977)

Metabolic energy expenditure and terrain coefficients for walking on snow. Ergonomics, 20(2), 171-181.

Established key relationships between walking speed and energy cost under load.

Terrain Effects

Voloshina & Ferris (2015)

Biomechanics and energetics of running on uneven terrain. Journal of Experimental Biology.

Demonstrated 5-10% energy cost increase on uneven surfaces.

Surface Impact

Lejeune et al. (1998)

Mechanics and energetics of human locomotion on sand. Journal of Experimental Biology.

Quantified 1.6-2.5x energy cost increase on soft sand surfaces.

Environmental Factors

Pandolf et al. (1976)

Metabolic Energy Expenditure and Terrain Coefficients for Walking on Snow.

Found 50-100% energy cost increases in snow conditions.

Load Distribution

Goldman & Iampietro (1962)

Energy cost of load carriage. Journal of Applied Physiology, 17(4), 675-676.

Analyzed relationship between load distribution and metabolic cost.

Development

Hello, my name is Ben and I'm the creator of RUCKR. I'm passionate about the transformative power of fitness, getting outdoors and doing what's hard. As a software engineer and entrepreneur, I'm driven to build tools that inspire movement, connection, and growth through the simple but challenging activity of rucking.

I'm currently deep in the process of developing RUCKR—a mobile app designed to guide, motivate, and connect ruckers of all levels. My love for rucking stems from its simplicity, versatility and ability to bring people together and share ideas. I'm a huge believer in community and personal challenge, and the intersection where they meet.

RUCKR isn't just an app—it's my way of helping others embrace the grind, find their limits, and move forward with purpose.

Rucking Breathing Strategy - Mastering Your Pace & Minimizing Fatigue

Rucking Breathing Strategy - Mastering Your Pace & Minimizing Fatigue

Rucking is all about efficiency, and one of the best ways to level up is through proper breathing. By mastering diaphragmatic breathing, maintaining good posture, and syncing your breath with your steps, you'll push through hills and heavy loads with more control—and less fatigue. It's not just about going farther, but doing it smarter, too.
